My Name is Shane and I Have a Mental Disorder

A Layman's Version of Mental Disorders

By Nola Mae Ross and Susan McFillen Castleberry

This book contains stories from people who have honestly and bravely told their life histories -- their fears, their anguish and their uncertainties -- after they were diagnosed with bipolar, depression, panic attacks, OCD, schizophrenia or ADHD.

Who better to learn from than those who have been and are living with mental disorders ? Reading about their life struggles, their joys, their failures and their faith, offers new insight into the understanding of these disorders.

This book offers a better understanding to families who have members recently diagnosed with a mental illness. Helps for mental disorders are very difficult to find, as we personally found out, and finding the very little help that is available would try the patience of Job.

We hope that this book will help the general public realize that mental illness is no more disgraceful than physical illness, and needs to be researched and treated just as diligently.

Portraiture

...In Plain Language

By Anne Dentler

Since the earliest days of civilization, portraits have been rendered of gods, kings, and pharaohs, first in stone, and later on papyrus, the early forerunner of paper. These dignitaries were so fond of their own images that they would hire an artist to come and live with them in their homes and palaces. The artist's sole duty of employment was to produce portrait after portrait of the monarch and his family. The artists were "paid" with room and board and a stipend. The more flattering the picture, the longer the artist remained. If the portrait was a totally accurate likeness of the subject, oftentimes the commissioner might object, disclaim his featural faults, and the artist would be set out on his ear. If the royalty was highly displeased, such displeasure could even cost the artist his life . Remember this when you view an old portrait in a museum. It may not be a completely true likeness of the subject
