Recipes, Faith and Traditions of Southwest Louisiana

Stories Compiled and Written By Nola Mae Ross

Southwest Louisiana is so richly populated with people from all over the world. We have so much to learn from each other, and what an adventure in diversity appreciation it is to know each other's family stories and to share those recipes that repeat themselves at important family gatherings. It is to this hope and purpose that Samaritan Counseling Center dedicates this anthology of stories and favorite recipes of families of Southwest Louisiana.

Cooking with Hazel

and Her Students

The teaching profession offers one an opportunity to touch and shape the lives of young people, but few have influenced the lives of so many in very practical, positive ways as Hazel Hebert Benoit. From the year 1945 when she arrived in Welsh to her retirement in 1980, she had a significant impact on almost every young woman and many of the young men who went through the Welsh school system.

A cookbook with a collection of recipes from Hazel Hebert Benoit and her students. Hazel was long-time, beloved Home Economics teacher at Welsh High School.

The sales will benefit the restoration of the Old Home Ec. Cottage where Hazel taught for many years

About the Author

The idea of Art Associates was born August 22, 1957 when a group of 30-40 interested people gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Shing) Snead to discuss the possibility “of bringing more and better art to the community at every level”. Outlining briefly the goals of the group, David Parsons, former art instructor at McNeese State College and Rice Institute in Houston, cited the need for such an organization to “bring the best quality painting and sculpture to Lake Charles”
