About the Author

Jasen was born in Texas City, Texas in 1971 to Stanley and Rebecca Transier. When Jasen was 3 years old, Stan and Becky settled in a house in Bayview, Texas where he would spend the rest of his youth. Both of his parents took advantage of every opportunity to teach Jasen and brother, Justin the ways of our Lord, Jesus.

Jasen attended Bay Area Christian High School in League City, Texas furthering his education in the Bible. Jasen was always looking for more “meat” of the Word. High school was where he learned to study scripture rather than just read it. He was blessed to sit under some of the best Bible teachers in Texas.

Jasen has often said, he was placed by God in those churches. Now, he and his wife, Melissa and his children, Hannah, Morgan, Kandice and Jonah, are members of Bayview Christian center.

Jasen says he has never sat under a more dedicated pastor. Fred ‘chico’ Michael is passionate about “rightly dividing the Word”. Most of his story ideas are planted by God while learning in his services.

Being blessed with four beautiful children has put Jasen on front line of some wonderful and sometimes challenging stories. All of his children’s stories are based on real events in the world of raising his kids under the care of Jesus Christ. Jasen has said, “I will not print a story that comes from me. The whole point is to tell people that God loves them. Every story is an idea that comes from God Himself. All I do is put His ideas into a life situation that I have experienced. I don’t have any stories to tell.” He goes on to say these stories have something for the parents that are reading as much as the children listening.

Jasen and family now live in Sulphur, La. He enjoys the quietness of the small town.

He still makes it to his beloved church every other weekend and to spend time with his mom and dad. He still loves his mom’s cooking and spending time with his dad and brother fishing or hunting.

Jasen has loved to write since he was a boy. He has stacks of old stories sitting around the house. He never showed them to anyone. But now he is writing with a purpose. His dream is for God to touch someone with his stories. “If a single little one can know God’s love for them through these stories, it is all worth it. But, I want to reach them all.”

Gondra

The Driftwood Dragon of Cameron Parish

By Lisa Michele Briggs Reed

Gondra, a tenacious and rather nosy Driftwood Dragon becomes environmentally-aware, as she embarks on a journey over land and sea, meeting a cast of fantastical creatures along the way. She learns about the uniqueness and beauty of Louisiana, and what the “human-people” can do to help the environment and the local wildlife. She ultimately ends up on Holly Beach, in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, where she meets a saucy dragonfly who helps her fulfill the promise she made to a Sea Turtle she befriended while drifting along in the Gulf of Mexico.

About the Author

Lisa has been writing poetry and creating art since childhood. Her love of wildlife, the beach, and the outdoors, combined with her artistic drive, has culminated in the creation of repurposed art and fantastical driftwood creatures that reflect the spirit of Louisiana’s wildlife. Lisa’s affiliation with Cameron Parish (through residency in Hackberry for a decade, and firsthand experience with the devastation of Hurricane Rita in 2005), developed into a deep-seated appreciation of the Parish, and admiration for the resilience of her people, which served to foster Lisa’s desire to share the uniqueness of Cameron Parish with others, through various forms of artistic expression; one being the story of Gondra. Lisa holds a B.S. in Aquatic Biology, and an M.S. in Environmental Science from McNeese University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and has been employed as a Environmental, Safety and Health Manager and Environmental Specialist in Hackberry, Louisiana for twenty-four years. She holds Federal and State Wildlife Rehabilitation Permits and is the owner of “Calca-Shack Creations”. She resides in Carlyss, Louisiana, with her husband Andrew, several canine companions, and an alligator named “Henry”

Uncle Sam:

A Horse's Tale

By Curt Iles

A week later, on the night before returning to Texas, Sergeant Ed slipped to Sam's stall.

"Sam, I know you don't understand, but I'm letting you go." "Run into the woods and hide. You'll be safe there."

Uncle Sam, a cavalry horse, travels to Louisiana in the months before America enters World War II.

Sam and his best friend, Sergeant Ed, take part in the Louisiana Army Maneuvers, a mock battle featuring infantry, tanks, jeeps, and traditional cavalry units.

As the battles end and Pearl Harbor nears, Uncle Sam and his friends escape into the piney woods of western Louisiana where they become forerunners of the famous Fort Polk wild horse herd.

Told by storyteller Curt Iles with creative illustrations by emerging artist Jade Ross and sleight of hand by graphic designer Julian Quebedeaux, Uncle Sam: A Horse's Tale is a delightful story of a memorable time seventy years ago.
